- Abstract
- A questionnaire study that compares patient expectation with osteopathic treatment at the European School of Osteopathy (ESO) clinic with that for a professionally operated osteopathic practice (POP). Introduction: Patient expectation in healthcare is linked to patient satisfaction. Previous research suggests that patients generally strongly associate osteopathic and other related manual therapy treatment modalities with pain reduction and symptom improvement. Is there a difference between patients expectations for a student and professionally operated osteopathic practice? This study has investigated this research question. Method: Primary data collection was via questionnaire whose design was influenced by previous published studies for patient expectation in osteopathic treatment. One hundred questionnaires were completed by patients from the ESO teaching clinic and from professionally operated osteopathic clinics. The questionnaire design used a Likert'-type scale. Patients were self selecting using an "equal probability of selection methodâ€.
