Outline/Problem Definition
Questions about the dissection course:Motive, the first time, crucial experience, exceptional situation, experiences during the course
changes after the course: general, diagnosing, choice of technique, visualisation, questioning anatomy theory, lasting impact, view of the patient as human beeing, self-image as an osteopath, future participation in dissection courses, dissection as integral part of osteopathic trainig?
Research Question & Objective
Does participation in a dissection course change the professional practice of an osteopath? And if so, in what way? What can we say about the view of the patient as a person?
Hypothesis
My working intensely with the anatomy of the human body changed my way of working with the patient. Precision in palpation, location of organs, understanding of tissue constitution, realisation of interconnectedness of all structures were improved. How do other osteopaths experience about that?
Relevance for the Patients
Improving the `hands-on work`of the osteopath brings better results for the patients.
Relevance for Osteopathy
The thesis shows the importance of anatomy in the field of osteopathy.
Methodology
Qualitative social study based on problem-centered interviews
2 expert interviews
7 interviews
Results
The experiences enriched the osteopathic practice of all participants.
All topics, mentioned in the Hypothesis were improved, but there were also answers, that in some single aspects the colleges saw no changes.
Critical Reflection/Perspectives/Conclusions
The thesis shows only the opinion of the interviewees, you can not put it up for all other osteopaths. But it shows that anatomy is worth to be one of the most important subjects in becoming an osteopath.
