- Abstract
- Introduction: Bronchial asthma is a global pulmonary condition that can affect any individual regardless of age. These patients have to deal with major impairments in their quality of life (CV) by involvement of such pathology. Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of osteopathic treatment to improve physical quality of life (CVF) and mental (CVM) in asthmatic patients after lung functional improve (FEV1). Material and Method: A randomized clinical trial was made. 18 subjects were randomized into two groups. Intervention group received osteopathic manual treatment (OMT) and placebo for control group. FEV1 and CV were assessed with the SF -36 questionnaire. Results: The results showed no significant differences for FEV1 and CVM scores between groups. However, CVF showed minimal significant differences for the intervention group but not for the control group. Conclusion: This study shows that de osteopathic treatment wasn't effective to improve the FEV1 of asthmatic patients, however it could be effective to improve minimally the CVF. Other studies with larger patient populations should be conducted to improve these minimal results, because that due to the small number of patients, not been able to prove.

- Introducción: El asma bronquial es una enfermedad pulmonar global que puede afectar a cualquier persona independientemente de su edad. Estos pacientes suelen tener déficit en su calidad de vida (CV) por la afectación de dicha patología.Objetivo: Evaluar la eficacia del tratamiento osteopático en la calidad de vida en pacientes asmáticos (calidad de vida física (CVF) y mental (CVM)), en pacientes asmáticos después de mejorar la función pulmonar (FEV1).Método: Se realizó un ensayo clínico aleatorizado. 18 sujetos fueron asignados al azar entre dos grupos. El grupo de intervención recibió el tratamiento manual osteopático (OMT) y el grupo control un placebo. La FEV1 y la CV con el cuestionario SF-36 es con lo que se evaluó.Resultados: Los resultados no mostraron diferencias significativas para la mejora de la FEV1 y la CVM entre grupos. Sin embargo, la CVF si mostró mínimas diferencias significativas para el grupo intervención, pero no para el grupo control.Conclusión: Este estudio muestra que el tratamiento de la osteopatía no es eficaz para mejorar la FEV1 del paciente asmático, sin embargo sí lo puede ser para mejorar mínimamente su CVF. Otros estudios con poblaciones mayores deben llevarse a cabo para mejorar estos resultados mínimos, ya que, debido al pequeño número de pacientes, no se ha podido demostrar.
