Background: Scars of appendectomies may influence the amplitude of the coxofemoral. This pilot study expected to measure the change in coxofemoral mobility through a pre-post visceral osteopathic treatment.Method: Single-blind and randomized study. Ten patients (Vilanova i la Geltru area, Barcelona, men and women, aged from 18 to 60) with appendectomy. Randomly, 5 patients were treated with osteopathic visceral manipulation, and the other 5 with a placebo treatment. The R.O.M. coxofemoral was measured by goniometry before, afterwards and three weeks after the treatment.
Results: Overall results show that there was improvement in the treatment group and in the control group. Comparing phases 3 and 2, the median had declined but the improvement was maintained over phase 1.
Conclusions: The treatments used in patients with appendectomy were not effective and there was no difference in results between the two groups. - Abstract

Introducción: La cicatriz de las apendicectomías puede influir en la amplitud de la coxofemoral. Este estudio piloto pretendió medir el cambio de la movilidad coxofemoral pre-post tratamiento osteopático visceral.
Metodología: Estudio cegado simple, aleatorio. 10 pacientes intervenidos de apendicectomía y con afectación del rango de movilidad coxofemoral (área de Vilanova i la Geltrú, Barcelona, mujeres-hombres, edad entre 18 y 60). De manera aleatoria 5 pacientes fueron tratados con osteopatía visceral y 5 con tratamiento placebo. Se midió el rango de movilidad coxofemoral con test goniométrico y calidad de movimiento antes, después y tres semanas post tratamiento.
Resultados: Los resultados generales muestran que hay mejoría en el grupo tratamiento y en el grupo control. Comparando las fases 3 y 2, las medias habían disminuido pero se mantenía la mejoría respecto a la fase 1.
Conclusiones: Los tratamientos utilizados en pacientes con apendicectomía no fueron efectivos ya que no se apreciaron diferencia en los resultados entre ambos grupos. - presented at
