- Abstract
- This investigation aimed to determine whether there is a significant difference in hamstring or hip-flexor flexibility between rowers with a history of back-pain and those without. Flexibility was measured using the Active Knee Extension and Thomas tests for 28 elite oarsmen from Molesey Boatclub. The means for left leg, right leg and both legs were calculated and differences were analysed using t-tests for parametric variables. Non-parametric variables were described for each group. The results do not show a significant difference between the hamstring/hip-flexor flexibility of subjects in the back-pain group and that of the non back-pain group. Therefore this study cannot display a relationship between either hamstring flexibility or hip-flexor flexibility and back-pain in elite oarsmen.
