- Abstract
- The hip is one of the largest and most stable joints in the body. Movement from the hip is essential for locomotion. This study allowed a comparison between football and karate hip ROM to be made, giving a good opportunity:' . to explor_ the hip in detail, highlighting the mechanics of how movement comes about and its relationship with the structure that it connects together. The sample included 60 male subjects from the age of 18-35 years of age selected from North London, 20 who are practicing karate, 20 who play football, and 20 people who do not do martial arts or football as a control group. A large steel goniometer was used to measure active and passive ROM in hip flexion and extension. The results obtained were tested for its reliability and its significance to the study using a one-tail t-test. A repeatability study was carried out to assess the validity of the method used in measurement. The validity of the study was found to be acceptable. The study showed a significantly greater active and passive ROM in extension for karate practitioners when compared to footballer players.
